Henry Schoolcraft, Michigan’s Indian agent during the mid 1800’s,  suggested Leelanau as it aptly fits the feeling one gets when looking over the pristine waters, clear blue sky and forested coastlines of Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan.
